Automotive Technology Certificate

The Automotive Technology Certificate program is designed to provide graduates with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to successfully enter the automotive repair industry. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students gain expertise in diagnosing and repairing automotive systems while prioritizing safety and ethical conduct. With a focus on emerging technologies and industry standards, our program prepares students for successful careers in automotive repair and maintenance, emphasizing professionalism and teamwork. Graduates are well-positioned to pursue industry certifications and secure entry-level positions in the automotive repair industry.
Automotive Technology Certificate Program Goals
- Equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in automotive systems, including engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, climate control and braking systems, and computerized diagnostics.
- Instill a strong understanding of safety protocols to ensure students can work effectively in a shop environment, prioritzing both personal safety and the safety of others.
- Develop the ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in vehicels using various tools and techniques, including computerized diagnostic equipment.
- Provide hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining vehicles, covering tasks such as oil changes, brake replacements, fluid flushes and tire rotations.
- Train students to communicate effectively with customers, understand their vehicle concerns, and provide clear explanations of necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Foster professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in all aspects of the automotive industry, emphasizing honesty, reliability, and accountability.
- Encourage collaboration and teamwork skills through group projects, team-based challenges, and hands-on activities, preparing students for the collaborative nature of automotive repair shops.
- Provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace, including time management, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Prepare students to pursue industry-recognized certifications, such as those offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), to enhance their employability and career advancement opportunities.
- Promote a culture of lifelong learning and professional development, encouraging students to continue their education and stay updated on modern technologies and best practices in the automotive field.
- Offer support services, such as resume building, interview preparation, and job placement assistance, to help students transition successfully from the program to entry-level positions in the automotive repair industry.
Admission to the Program: Open
First-time Enrollees
- Complete an application for admission and, if desired, apply for financial aid.
- Send an official high school transcript or GED score report to the Admissions and Records Office.
- Complete the placement exam.
- Meet with a Student Success Advocate/Advisor to select classes and complete the registration process.
