MUS 109 - Intro to Rock and Roll Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0
[Note: This course will be offered starting Fall 2026]
This course examines the history, evolution, and cultural significance of rock music from its roots in blues and gospel through the present day. Students will explore major artists, styles, and movements while analyzing how rock has reflected and influenced social, political, and technological change. Emphasis is placed on critical listening and cultural analysis; no musical background is required. Applicable toward graduation at CSC where program structure permits: “AA”, “AS”, “AFA”, “AAS”, “AGS”, and “Certificates” where applicable.
