PCT 135 - Home Health Aide

This course provides the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behaviors) competencies to prepare the certified nursing assistant (CNA) or patient care technician (PCT) specialized training to work as a Home Health Aide in the home care environment. Home Health Aides help the elderly, the disabled and people in ill health to maintain their quality of life and independence at home. This course will provide the professional-level knowledge about the Home Health Care Industry and Home Care Services. Emphasis on the role and responsibilities of the home health aide, managing the home environment, maintaining a safe environment, supporting nutrition and fluid intake, providing personal care in the client’s home, establishing professional boundaries, and working with special populations such as families, children, elderly, dying clients, chronically-ill clients, and those with mental, physical, or developmental disabilities. Students will observe, participate, and perform in the functional role of the Home Health Aide in a simulated clinical setting and home care setting. This course is composed of 24 hours of theory and 16 hours of simulation lab/clinical practicum. (1.2)
