The Oxy-Fuel Welding and Cutting Certificate Program is designed to enable the graduate to succeed in employment as a welder in industry. The graduate will be proficient in oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, arc welding and reading blueprints. Students receive various levels of welding proficiency after successfully completing tests which measure their welding skills.
Oxy-Fuel Welding & Cutting Certificate Program Goals
- Provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and develop skills used in the welding industry and to become familiar with career opportunities in the welding industry,
- Develop skills using hand and power tools of the industry in OAW procedures.
- Develop the ability to read welding diagrams and related technical manuals and to practice effective listening and communication skills.
- Provide students with the practical application of mathematical computations used in the welding industry.
- Develop an awareness of the responsibility and need for safe procedures that must be followed in the lab and/or work environment.
Labor Market Need for Welders, Cutters, Solderers and Brazers:
2015 Median Pay: $38,150 per year; $18.34 per hour
Employment change 2014 - 2024: 14,400 positions available
Admission to the Program: Open
First-Time Enrollees
- Complete an application for admission and, if desired, apply for financial aid.
- Send an official high school transcript or GED score report to the Admissions and Records Office.
- Complete the placement exam.
- Meet with an advisor/counselor to select classes and complete the registration process.
