The Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program is structured to equip graduates with skills and knowledge essential for a successful career in the automotive repair industry. This program offers a thorough curriculum enabling students to master diagnosing and repairing automotive systems with a strong emphasis on safety and ethical practices. By integrating emerging technologies and industry benchmarks into the coursework, we ensure that our students are prepared for the ever-evolving industry of automotive repair and maintenance. Emphasizing professionalism and collaborative teamwork, our graduates emerge ready to pursue industry certifications and secure entry-level positions in the automotive repair industry.

Automotive Technology AAS program goals

• Equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in automotive systems, including engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, climate control and braking systems, and computerized diagnostics.
• Instill a strong understanding of safety protocols to ensure students can work effectively in a shop environment, prioritizing both personal safety and the safety of others.
• Develop the ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles using various tools and techniques, including computerized diagnostic equipment.
• Provide hands-on experience in repairing and maintaining vehicles, covering tasks such as oil changes, brake replacements, fluid flushes and tire rotations.
• Train students to communicate effectively with customers, understand their vehicle concerns, and provide clear explanations of necessary repairs and maintenance.
• Foster professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior in all aspects of the automotive industry, emphasizing honesty, reliability, and accountability.
• Encourage collaboration and teamwork skills through group projects, team-based challenges, and hands-on activities, preparing students for the collaborative nature of automotive repair shops.
• Provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace, including time management, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Prepare students to pursue industry-recognized certifications, such as those offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), to enhance their employability and career advancement opportunities.
• Promote a culture of lifelong learning and professional development, encouraging students to continue their education and stay updated on modern technologies and best practices in the automotive field.
• Offer support services, such as resume building, interview preparation, and job placement assistance, to help students transition successfully from the program to entry-level positions in the automotive repair industry.
• Enhance leadership and supervisory skills, preparing students for roles beyond entry-level positions such as shop foreman or team leader roles.
• Foster entrepreneurship by introducing concepts related to running an automotive business, including marketing, financial management, and customer retention strategies.
• Introduce advanced automotive technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicle systems to ensure students are prepared for the future of the automotive industry.
