NAD 181 - LPN to RN Transition Credit(s): 5 Lecture Hours: 4 Lab Hours: 2
The LPN-RN Transition course is an intensive eleven-week summer course designed to enhance the knowledge learned in the Practical Nursing Program and make the transition into the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The course content is intended to augment knowledge learned in a practical nursing program and includes an overview of fundamental nursing concepts and essential nursing skills. The nursing role is differentiated with emphasis on health maintenance, health promotion and disease prevention. Emphasis will be placed on the following concepts: provisions of safety, quality care, evidenced based practice, APA format, critical thinking, communication, documentation, dosage calculations, legal and ethical issues, delegation and prioritization of nursing care, nursing process, nursing assessment and patient-centered care that is culturally,
developmentally, psychosocially, and spiritually based. Selected content from the first year of the associate degree program in physiological integrity will be reviewed. Combining classroom, clinical simulation and nursing laboratory experience, students learn through the application of concepts. Applicable toward graduation at Sandburg where program structure permits: Degree or Certificate: AAS, AGS and Certificates where applicable. (1.2)
Offered: Summer Prerequisite(s): Licensed Practical Nurse with current Illinois Nursing License and admission into the Associate degree Nursing Program, BIO 200 , SOC 101 prerequisites or concurrent enrollment.
