NAD 220 - Professionalism & Leadership within the Community of Nursing

Community health nursing concepts are fully integrated throughout the course to support safe practice across diverse populations and care settings. Students will apply principles of population health, community assessment, levels of prevention, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and health promotion as part of their leadership and decision-making processes. The nurse’s role in coordinating care, advocating for vulnerable populations, and utilizing community resources is examined as an essential component of professional practice.

Legal and ethical issues are analyzed with focus on personal accountability, cultural humility, equity in care delivery, and adherence to state regulations, statutes, and standards of practice. Students will explore how community and public health obligations intersect with acute-care responsibilities to ensure holistic, evidence-based practice.

Career planning and professional development are emphasized, including strategies for navigating the transition to practice, advancing the nursing profession, and contributing to community well-being. Students will develop a comprehensive professional portfolio demonstrating growth, competence, and readiness for entry-level practice. A minimum grade of “C” is required to successfully complete this course.

Prerequisite(s): NAD 200  and NAD 205  with a grade of C or better in order to progress in the program. 
Corequisite: NAD 210  with a minimum grade of C in order to progress in the program.
