Withdrawing from Class?

female student at a computer in the library. If it appears that you will not be successful in a class, it is often better to withdraw from the class than receive a poor grade that will be part of your permanent record. You should meet with your instructor and advisor to discuss your options prior to officially withdrawing. Withdrawing from a class may protect your GPA; however, these actions can have other serious consequences that might affect your enrollment, financial aid, or student employment status. If you are on financial aid, you should speak with someone in the Financial Aid Office before you withdraw from a class to find out whether there will be an impact on your financial aid. Any student receiving VA or GI Bill benefits should contact the Veterans Coordinator prior to dropping classes for explanation of possible consequences.
